■ Speech Evaluations 

Full Assessment of Parameters of Speech

  • Oral Peripheral Speech Mechanism and Function
  • Articulation

A full written evaluation report with recommendations for intervention completes the assessment.

 

■ Speech and Language Evaluation

Assessment will include at least two standardized measures, if applicable, addressing the areas of need*.

Full Assessment of the Parameters of Speech and Language may include:

Speech Evaluation for Children 3 years and older

The speech evaluation will fully assess the parameters of speech production, including

  • Oral peripheral speech mechanism and function
  • Articulation skills
  • Fluency
  • Voice

Basic Speech and Language Evaluation for Children 2-5 years of age

This assessment will include standardized tests, non standardized scales or profile, observations and play-based assessments.

  • Articulation skills
  • Receptive language
  • Expressive language
  • Pragmatic language
  • Play Skills
  • Social Readiness and Interaction

Basic Speech and Language Evaluation for Children 5-21 years of age

This evaluation will include at least two standardized tests, informal observations, parent interview, and information from school when available. Assessment of speech and language will address areas of concern and may include:

  • Oral peripheral speech mechanism and function
  • Articulation skills
  • Receptive language
  • Expressive language (Oral and Written)
  • Pragmatic awareness
  • Pragmatic Language/Social Communication
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

All assessment protocols are individually designed to address the presented concerns and weaknesses. *

Evaluations for toddlers and Preschoolers will also include play based assessment procedures. A full written evaluation report with recommendations for intervention is included with the assessment.

■ Comprehensive Speech and Language Evaluations

Assessment will include at least one broad based language assessment with deep testing procedures to evaluate reported concerns and identified deficit areas. Protocols will address areas of higher order language functions. This assessment is scheduled over two or more sessions. Deep Assessment of the Parameters of Speech and Language may include:

  • Narrative Skills
  • Receptive Language
  • Pragmatic Language

  • Other areas depending on need

All assessment protocols are individually designed to address the presented concerns and weaknesses. A full written evaluation report with recommendations for intervention is included with the assessment. School visits or observations are available for an additional fee and must be prearranged.

■ Evaluation of Social Communication and Learning Skills

Assessment social communication and social learning can include extensive interview and observation, formal evaluation measures, social skill assessments and parameters from the ILAUGH Model of Social Thinking® and The Social Thinking-Social Communication Profile developed by Michelle Garcia Winner, Pamela Crooke and Stephanie Madrigal of the Center for Social Thinking, San Jose, CA (www.socialthinking.com).

Evaluation of social communication and learning can include relevant parameters such as

  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Higher Order Language Functions
  • Pragmatic Language Skills
  • Social Communication Skills
  • Perspective Taking
  • Inferential and Abstract Thinking
  • Gestalt Processing
  • Nonverbal Communication

Full written evaluation report with recommendations for intervention completes the assessment.

■ Speech Language Consultation*

A speech and language consultation does not include any formal assessment. This session is a review of available records and a diagnostic therapy session with parent interview for the purpose of making recommendations for future services. Recommendations could include

  • Full speech and language evaluation
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Social Skills training
  • Referral for consultation for related medical and/or therapy services

*Written report provided as an additional service, upon request.

■ Social Skills Consultations*

This consultative session could include a review of available records, diagnostic play session, double interview, and parent interview. The purpose of this consultation is to determine readiness for a social skills intervention program. Recommendations could include

  • Recommendation for individual and/or group social skills
  • Placement in a group, if appropriate
  • Recommendation for referral for related medical and/or therapy services
