Social Super Heroes is a dynamic program that is designed for children entering the 3rd – 5th grades. This cutting-edge social thinking/executive functioning summer program will help build social learning address the complex issues of self-regulation and behavior common to many children with social learning challenges. Through the use of the “Superflex… A Superhero Social Thinking Curriculum” along with creative activities, participants will explore their own “stuck thinking” and identify ways to modify their thoughts and related behaviors in various socially based settings. Largely based on the work of Michelle Garcia Winner and Stephanie Madrigal, participants will learn about flexibility in thinking and behavior and the “evil villains” that work to undermine one’s flexible mind.

Participants in Social Super Heroes will:

  1. Learn about the concepts of “flexible thinking” and its role in establishing and maintaining peer relationships and working together in groups.
  2. Learn about behaviors that interfere with flexible thinking and develop self-awareness and build self-monitoring strategies of their behavior.
  3. Develop beginning strategies for building social problem solving and emotional regulation abilities.

In order to place group members appropriately, all interested participants must be seen for a social skills consult with the director, Arlene Rubin, M.A., CCC-SLP.
