Consultation

A speech and language consultation is an informal assessment which includes a review of available records, diagnostic therapy, and parent interview for the purpose of making recommendations for future services.

A consultation is also the first step in determining readiness for our social skills groups and/or appropriate placement in one of our programs.

Preschool Speech and Language Evaluation for Children 3-5 years of age

This assessment will include standardized tests, non-standardized scales or profile, observations and play-based assessments:

  • Oral peripheral speech mechanism and function
  • Articulation skills
  • Receptive language
  • Expressive language
  • Pragmatic language
  • Play skills
  • Social readiness and interaction
Basic Speech Evaluation

This speech evaluation will fully assess the parameters of speech production including:

  • Oral peripheral speech mechanism and function
  • Articulation skills
  • Fluency
  • Voice
Basic Language Evaluation

This evaluation will include two language standardized tests, informal observations, parent interview, and information from school when available. Assessment will address areas of concern and may include:

  • Receptive language
  • Expressive language (Oral and Written)
  • Pragmatic awareness
  • Pragmatic language/social communication
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
Comprehensive Speech and Language Evaluations

Assessment will include at least one broad based language assessment with deep testing procedures to evaluate reported concerns and identified deficit areas. Protocols will address areas of higher order language functions. This assessment is scheduled over two or more sessions. Deep assessment of the parameters of speech and language may include:

  • Oral peripheral speech mechanism and function
  • Articulation
  • Phonemic awareness
  • Narrative skills
  • Receptive language
  • Pragmatic language and social communication
  • Expressive language (Oral and Written)
  • Higher order language functions
  • Social Cognition
  • Executive Function

School visits or observations are available for an additional fee and must be prearranged.

All assessment protocols are individually designed to address the presented concerns and challenges. A full written evaluation report with recommendations for intervention is included with the assessment.
