Early Social Learners in PreK4-1st grade

The Social Express departs Monday – Thursday

Boarding time:          9:15 a.m.

All aboard!  The Social Express will take our early social learners on a fun filled journey to the Social Thinking® Station.  Through music, stories and dramatic play activities. Passengers on board the Social Express will learn the fundamental concepts of Social Thinking ®.  

  • Develop awareness of social thinking concepts
  • Expand play schemas and interests
  • Increase social communication skills

Social Team Builders

Social Learners in Grades 2-4

Session A: July 8-18, 2024   Session B:  August 5-15, 2024

Monday – Thursday

Social Team Builders is a dynamic program designed for children in elementary school, this cutting-edge program will address the complex issues of social cognition, executive function, self-regulation and behavior common to many children with social learning challenges. Participants will explore their own social executive function and identify ways to modify their thoughts and related behaviors for various social contexts.

  • Learn about the concept of “flexible thinking” and its role in establishing and maintaining peer relationships
  • Develop strategies for building social problem solving and emotional regulation
  • Begin to build an understanding of the “hidden rules” of social behavior and communication
Social Learning Film Festival

Film Critics in Grades 5-8

Session A:  July 8-18 2024          Session B:   August 5-15, 2024

Monday – Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The Social Learning Film Festival returns this summer at GTP! Participants will explore social cognitive concepts, through the magic of movies. This therapeutic program will help our ACTIVE viewers explore and dissect social relationships, thoughts, and feelings in dynamic interactions. The ability to freeze frames of the movies will provide a unique opportunity to build social cognition, perspective taking and narrative language. 

  • Identify contextual and fundamental “thinking with your eyes” information
  • Discern feeling states and expand emotional vocabulary
  • Understand and track multiple perspectives
  • Interpret tone, inferential tone, facial, nonverbal, and gestural information
  • Experience empathy with characters
Social Planners

Social Learners in Grades 9-12

Monday – Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Social Planners is a dynamic program that is designed for socially curious High School students. This cutting-edge program will address the complex issues related to social cognition, executive function, self-regulation and behavior common to many teens with social learning challenges by building a sturdier foundation for understanding social expectations, making social decisions and fostering social independence.  

  • Increase understanding of the concept of “flexible thinking” and its role in establishing and maintaining peer relationships and working together.
  • Increase awareness of how they are perceived by others and learn how to demonstrate interest in others.
  • Develop executive function skills required to make plans to hang out with others.
EF Boot Camp- Summer

Trainees 18+

Monday – Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  

Session A:  July 8-18, 2024   Session B:  August 5-15, 2024

EF Boot Camp is modeled after the work of leading national experts in executive function skills training. This intense program is designed to address challenges in executive function, a term used to describe difficulties associated with goal setting, carrying out organized steps and modifying a plan to complete a task successfully. 

  • Improve Nonverbal Working Memory as the foundation for all other skills
  • Manage multiple activities including homework, projects and extracurricular activities while still finding “down time” 
  • Develop a “memory for the future” by learning strategies to set and achieve goals
  • Improve time management skills

Summer Leap is a comprehensive 2-week speech-language intervention program to facilitate

speech-language-communication skills of young children with a language-based learning disability. 

Increase understanding and use of vocabulary and language concepts

Develop strategies for word and information retrieval

Improve understanding and use of syntactic skills for verbal expression

Facilitate language –based critical thinking and problem solving

Increase awareness of communication for peer interactions

Social Executive Function Prep- Summer

All Ages 

12-session package              16- session package

Each session is scheduled for one hour 

All sessions must be completed between June 24- August 30, 2024

Social Executive Function Prep is a beginners program designed for students from elementary school through college. This cutting-edge program will address the complex issues of social cognition, executive function, self-regulation and behavior common to many children with social learning and executive function challenges.

Social Executive Function Prep will build social competency along with developing strategies for improving attention, organization, time management and metacognitive problem solving skills that relate to activities of daily living and academic success. 

Participants will:

  • Develop and increase social awareness and social interpretation
  • Build social problem solving skills
  • Improve Nonverbal Working Memory as the foundation for all other skills
  • Create situational awareness to enable one to “read a room”
  • Learn how to sense the passage of time and improve time management
  • Manage multiple activities including homework, projects and extracurricular activities
